{"id":44,"date":"2013-06-06T14:36:00","date_gmt":"2013-06-06T21:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.schafenfreude.com\/?p=44"},"modified":"2013-10-27T18:44:10","modified_gmt":"2013-10-28T01:44:10","slug":"progress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.schafenfreude.com\/?p=44","title":{"rendered":"Progress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Deadline weaving continues over here &#8211; it&#8217;s another vest but this time it&#8217;s specifically for Handwoven. \u00a0I was asked to follow the Pantone &#8220;Winter 2013&#8221; color palette and I boldly chose a set of three colors from Jaggerspun in the 20\/2 Maine Line wool. \u00a0I had planned to take a page out of Sara&#8217;s book (article) and use two colors that are close in value to get a more interesting warp. \u00a0That resulted in choosing a purple and a deep blue. \u00a0For the weft, I wanted a high-contrast color and I settled on a very light teal.<\/p>\n<p>Next was some quality time looking at plaited twills from a variety of sources. \u00a0This was my Saturday:<\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-WcERumZGT68\/UbD8n55gOmI\/AAAAAAAAC3A\/J2YqzFFBLQc\/s1600\/IMG_2670.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-WcERumZGT68\/UbD8n55gOmI\/AAAAAAAAC3A\/J2YqzFFBLQc\/s320\/IMG_2670.JPG\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>A combination of FiberWorks, Olesner, Strickler, a few Handwovens and various other weaving books. \u00a0I&#8217;m so glad that I have a good library on which to draw &#8211; it makes a world of difference. \u00a0A few hours later and I&#8217;d worked up a series of potential fabrics based on an 8-shaft straight-twill threading. \u00a0So, time to wind the warp and get moving. \u00a0Lickety-split, I was done weaving on Sunday afternoon and then I washed and finished the fabric. \u00a0I&#8217;d even tested two different setts so I could be sure of the fabric.<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, I can hear it now. \u00a0You&#8217;re already saying it to yourself, &#8220;What was she THINKING? \u00a0Plaited twill? \u00a0In THOSE colors?&#8221; \u00a0Well, Pantone was thinking along those color lines, and in principle it seemed like it could work, but once I got the fabric off the loom &#8230; ugh. \u00a0Suffice to say that it would be fashionable but most assuredly not something that I wanted to stare at for the next four weeks, much less wear for the next 20 years. \u00a0I was pretty despondent on Monday. \u00a0So, I got out my calculator and spreadsheet and confirmed that I could squeeze out another sample and still be able to choose any combination of colors I wanted for warp\/weft. \u00a0I threw on another warp &#8211; this time, each color by itself in a wide stripe so that I could do a little gamp.<\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-a7W5aeri2r8\/UbD8oZIKxkI\/AAAAAAAAC3U\/7iJ07iG2fdU\/s1600\/IMG_2673.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-a7W5aeri2r8\/UbD8oZIKxkI\/AAAAAAAAC3U\/7iJ07iG2fdU\/s320\/IMG_2673.JPG\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Smart girl. \u00a0Should have done this from the start, and &#8220;note to self&#8221; in that category, but I&#8217;m much, much happier with all these possibilites.<\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-6H0gle29vxw\/UbD8qOr0-7I\/AAAAAAAAC3w\/8u4u7S7TPDY\/s1600\/IMG_2678.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-6H0gle29vxw\/UbD8qOr0-7I\/AAAAAAAAC3w\/8u4u7S7TPDY\/s320\/IMG_2678.JPG\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the whole shebang &#8211; and now you can see, perhaps, why I think that greenish blue is just a bit &#8220;hot&#8221;.<\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-bXLwl5xyVKg\/UbD8qkdfnrI\/AAAAAAAAC34\/mO-CvZ7_mbA\/s1600\/IMG_2679.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-bXLwl5xyVKg\/UbD8qkdfnrI\/AAAAAAAAC34\/mO-CvZ7_mbA\/s320\/IMG_2679.JPG\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>None of the green ones are particularly horrible &#8211; and that bit in the lower right corner is woven off with 20\/2 silk, you know, for science!
