{"id":49,"date":"2013-04-18T09:41:00","date_gmt":"2013-04-18T16:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.schafenfreude.com\/?p=49"},"modified":"2013-11-11T09:05:07","modified_gmt":"2013-11-11T17:05:07","slug":"some-assembly-required","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.schafenfreude.com\/?p=49","title":{"rendered":"Some Assembly Required"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>When last we left our heroine, she was getting ready to cut the now-dyed fabric into bits and pieces. \u00a0Yesterday morning looked like this:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-JWsw8-Y3Nb8\/UXAfu588-_I\/AAAAAAAACuk\/Bhyz1ShsraU\/s1600\/IMG_2650.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-JWsw8-Y3Nb8\/UXAfu588-_I\/AAAAAAAACuk\/Bhyz1ShsraU\/s320\/IMG_2650.JPG\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>And after about two hours of laying out, cutting, maneuvering, etc., I had umpteen pattern pieces of the main fabric laying about the studio. \u00a0I unvented something in the process &#8211; underneath the fabric is the back side of my blocking board. \u00a0It has a soft nap, rather like felt, and absolutely eliminated the problem of the fabric moving about on my otherwise slick folding table. \u00a0Also, the nap is fine enough that the shears had no problem gliding along, and I could have put pins into everything if I&#8217;d so desired. \u00a0It made cutting pieces out a breeze. \u00a0Plus, the fabric behaved like a champ. \u00a0I even took a moment to try and orient the pattern at key points (where the front closure will be, for example) and hopefully that all works out in the end. \u00a0After I finished the cutting, I dashed out for a run, had lunch and then went to work until nearly bedtime.<\/p>\n<p>Cut to this morning when I swallowed my coffee and headed back to the studio. \u00a0Lining and interfacing are now also cut and I started stay-stitching and assembling the vest. \u00a0Here&#8217;s as far as I&#8217;ve gotten:<\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-Qz4tRVNEiJc\/UXAfvSbW1fI\/AAAAAAAACus\/NIvT3Qf87-0\/s1600\/IMG_2651.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-Qz4tRVNEiJc\/UXAfvSbW1fI\/AAAAAAAACus\/NIvT3Qf87-0\/s320\/IMG_2651.JPG\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div>Interfacing attached to the fronts and I&#8217;ve pinned the fronts and side-fronts together. \u00a0The pattern calls for ease-stitching at the bust but the fabric is so lovely and compliant, I&#8217;m going to skip it. \u00a0This isn&#8217;t shirting so I&#8217;m not worried at all.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Amazing, this. \u00a0I&#8217;m so much more confident than I was with my shirt. \u00a0Whether it&#8217;s because I could check shoulder slopes and waist points, or have a better understanding of how this whole process works (thank you Vogue Sewing!), I&#8217;m just not worried about anything. \u00a0It&#8217;ll be what it is, and I suspect I&#8217;ll like it a lot. \u00a0Because it&#8217;s mine. \u00a0:-)<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Now, the down side is that we&#8217;re going away for the weekend. \u00a0Today. \u00a0Shortly after lunch. \u00a0No sewing, no assembling, no nothing. \u00a0I&#8217;m hoping to be able to make some further inroads on this when we come home on Saturday afternoon\/evening, but that feels unlikely. \u00a0And, Sunday is a memorial service for a dear friend, so that might be off the table as well. \u00a0But!
