Classes and Workshops

Below is my basic list of classes.  Additional topics are available; please Contact to discuss your interest and we can work together to modify existing topics or design one just for your shop or guild.

  • Beginning Weaving on a Rigid Heddle – Get started weaving right away and learn about basic weaving by making a scarf.  Class covers loom parts, terminology, and students warp a loom to weave a scarf using worsted-weight yarn.  Brief discussion of finishing techniques and processes.  Adventurous weavers can finish in a full day, others may need to finish weaving/tying fringe at home.  Yarn, loom and associated tools supplied by students/shop/guild  as instructed.  Materials fee to cover handout $10.
  • Sampling for a Purpose – how to take a deliberate approach to sampling to enable a more successful project.  Primarily focused on weaving with a discussion on handspinning for woven fabrics.  Available as a 1h lecture, or a 1-day class with more exercises and discussion
  • Weave to Sew – Designing and weaving fabrics to make clothes you’ll love.  Advice on choosing yarns, structures, patterns and colors.  How to modify commercial sewing patterns for narrow widths, ideas for sampling and fabric calculations.  Lecture, 1 or 2 day class.
  • Weaving with Handspun – Discuss what makes a good weaving yarn, strategies for mixing fibers and colors, dealing with variations in your yarn, and strategies for keeping warps under control.  Lecture or 1-day class.
